Africa CDC Says It Can Raise $600 Million to Fight Mpox

Dakar, Senegal

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) says it is confident it can raise $600 million to fight the mpox outbreak in Africa.

The Africa CDC said it had already secured $60 million from the World Bank and was in talks with other donors to raise the remaining $540 million. The funds would be used to support countries in Africa to prevent and control the spread of mpox, including providing vaccines, training healthcare workers, and strengthening surveillance systems.

The Africa CDC said that the mpox outbreak in Africa was a serious public health threat, but that it was confident the continent could bring it under control with the right resources.
